Currently the ratio of girls to boys is 1 to 2. 1+2= 3. This means that out of every 3 students 1 is a girl and 2 are boys.
1/3*600= 200 currently are girls. If we grow this by 25%: 200*1.25= 250 there will be 250 girls.
Now, you don't say if the total population grows or if the increase in girls means a decrease in boys in order to keep the total at 600.
If it grows: The new population will be 650 and 250/650= 38.5% will be girls
If it does not grow, then 250/600= 41.67% will be girls
Ratio if the population grows: 650-250= 400 So 250 will be girls and 400 will be boys (in this case the number of boys has not changed):
250/400 simplify by dividing both sides by 50: 5:8 is your new ratio, 5 girls for every 8 boys. I'm a boy, so I like this better than the previous ratio ;-)
