Question 1010317: A metal alloy weighing 12 oz and containing 35% nickel is melted and mixed with 6 oz of a different alloy which contains 65% nickel. What percent of the resulting alloy is nickel?
Answer by addingup(3677)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
This is a weighted distribution:
12+6= 18
12/18= 0.667
6/18 = 0.333
------------------------------------------
We have that:
0.667*0.35= 0.24
and
0.333*0.65= 0.22
We add both numbers:
0.24+0.22= 0.46 The resulting alloy is 46% nickel
