Question 1003532: 1. A cookie recipe calls for 2 1/4 cups of flour and 1/12 cups of sugar. A girl has plenty of flour but only 1 3/4 of sugar. How much flour should she use with the 1 3/4 cups of sugar to keep the ingredients in proportion?

Answer by fractalier(6550)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
We can set up the proportion:
(2 1/4)/(1/12) = x / (1 3/4)
and solve for x...
What is probably easier than cross-multiplying is just to divide 2 1/4 by 1/12...
We get
2 1/4 / 1/12 = 27
and then multiply this by 1 3/4 and get
27 x 1 3/4 = 27 x 7/4 = 189/4 = 47 1/4 cups flour
This may not be what you think because you give 1/12 cup of sugar...you may mean 1 1/2 cup sugar...please resubmit...
