Hi there,
Robin uses 1/4 of a pound of butter
to make a cake.
She starts with 7/8 of a pound of butter.
so she has 7/8 - 1/4 left
7/8 - 1/4
Multiply 8 x 4 to get a denominator
= 32
Cross multiply 4 x 7 = 28
and 8 x 1 = 8
= 28 - 8/ 32
= 20/32
Divide top and bottom by 4
= 5/8 of a pound of butter left.
Hope this helps. :-)
