Question 994629: in a school x no of boys is 40 percent more than girls and in a school y no of girls is 50 percent more than boys if 50 percent of boys in school x =70 percent of girls in school y what is the ratio between no of students of school x and y?
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"in a school x no of boys is 40 percent more than girls,"
lets try this with some values,
let b = no. of boys in the x school
let g = no. of girls
x = 360 total students in x school
then
b + g = 360
given statement
b = 1.4g
Replace b with 1.4g
1.4g + g = 360
2.4g = 360
g = 360/2.4
g = 150 girls in x school
and
360 - 150 = 210 boys in x school
:
if 50 percent of boys in school x = 70 percent of girls in school y,
let f = no. of girls in school y
.5(210) = .7f
105 = .7f
f = 105/.7
f = 50 girls in school y
:
It also says,"in a school y no of girls is 50 percent more than boys."
let m = no. of boys in school y
1.5m = 50
m = 50/1.5
m = 150 boys in school y
:
Find the total students in school y
50 + 150 = 200
:\
what is the ratio between no of students of school x and y?
reduces to a ratio of 9:5

Question 993587: The population of a town is 9500. If the males increased by 8% and the females increased by 12%, the population will be
10420. Find the number of females in the town.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let M be males now and let F be females now.
Thus
M + F = 9500
After the increase, we have
1.08M + 1.12F = 10420
Since we want females, let's solve the first equation for M and substitute it into the second equation.
M = 9500 - F
1.08(9500 - F) + 1.12F = 10420
10260 - 1.08F + 1.12F = 10420
Simplifying, we get
.04F = 160
and
F = 4000

Question 993611: WE HAVE 45 EMPLOYEES. 64% ARE WOMEN, 36% ARE MEN. hOW MANY WOMEN EMPLOYEES DO WE HAVE. hoW MANY MEN

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.64 * 45 = 28.8
.36 * 45 = 16.2

obviously the numbers are not exact, but if you round off the numbers, you get 29 women and 16 men.

we can test this out to see if it's accurate.

let's assume there were 28 women and 17 men.

the percentages would be 62% women and 38% men rounded off to the nearest integer.

now let's assume there were 29 women and 16 men.

the percentages would be 64% women and 36% men rounded off to the nearest integer.

looks like 29 women and 16 men is the correct answer.

Question 993419: How much 60% antifreeze solution and 30% antifreeze solution should be combined to give 55 gallons of 42% antifreeze solution? Thank you!
You can put this solution on YOUR website!

How much 60% antifreeze solution and 30% antifreeze solution should be combined to give 55 gallons of 42% antifreeze solution? Thank you!
Let the amount of 60% solution to mix, be S
Then the amount of 30% solution to be mixed = 55 - S
The following antifreeze-solution equation is thus formed:
.6S + .3(55 - S) = .42(55)
.6S + 16.5 - .3S = 23.1
.6S - .3S = 23.1 - 16.5
.3S = 6.6
S, or amount of 60% solution to mix = , or gallons
Amount of 30% solution to be mixed = 55 - 22, or gallons

Question 993191: the numerator of a certain fraction is 5 times the denominator. if 6 is added to both the numerator and the denominator, the result fraction is equivalent to 2. what was the original factory?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Hi there,
the numerator of a certain fraction is 5 times the denominator
Make the denominator = 'x'
= 5x/x
if 6 is added to both the numerator and the denominator,
the result fraction is equivalent to 2.
5x + 6/x + 6 = 2/1
Cross multiply
2(x + 6) = 5x + 6
2x + 12 = 5x + 6
Collect like terms.
2x - 5x = 6 - 12
-3x = - 6
x = 2
Original fraction
= 10/2
