Question 759088: Question: Find the perimeter of a square if its area is 20 cm squared.
I know to find the area of a square I would use the formula 20= 2(X) and the perimeter would be Perimeter= X+X+X+X, however, when I attempt to solve for each side of the square, I get 5 and 4 centimeters: this is a complication because a square requires all sides to be equal to each other. Please help.

The area of a square is given by where is the measure of one of the sides.

So,

Take the square root of both sides: .

The perimeter is 4 times the measure of one side, so to be exact or approximately 18 rounded to the nearest centimeter. You cannot round to greater precision than the nearest centimeter because your given measurement, the area of the square, was given to the nearest square centimeter and you cannot have greater precision in your answer than the least precise given measurement.
