Question 305866: I need to find radius of circle with given information - shaded area of circle is 40 degrees and area of that shaded area is 59in^2. I understand how to find area when given radius or diameter but need help with this. I'm working on Sector area and arc length.

I need to find radius of circle with given information - shaded area of circle is 40 degrees and area of that shaded area is 59in^2.

40 degs is 1/9 of the circle, so the area of the whole circle = 59*9
= 531 sq in

----
9*59 = 531 sq in (total area of the circle)

Solve for "r":
(pi)r^2 = 531 sq.in
r^2 is very close to 169.0225
r = 13 inches
