1. 2/3 + 5/6 + 2/9

To solve, all your denominators must be the same. You have to find the LCM for the fractions (i.e., the first number that all 3 numbers in the denominator can go into). The LCM is 18.

Next, multiply the numerators and denominators of each fraction by the number the denominator needs to be multiplied by to get 18:

Now add the numerators together and put that sum in the numerator and 18 in the denominator:



Convert this to a mixed number, since it is an improper fraction, by dividing 31 by 18:

31 / 18 = 1 with a remainder of 13, so 1 13/18

2. 11/12 - 5/12

Since the denominators are the same, just subtract the numerator of the second fraction from the numerator of the first fraction, and place that result in the numerator and place 12 in the denominator:

6/12

Reduce this fraction to lowest terms by dividing the numerator and denominator by 6:

1/2

3. 3 4/7 + 2 3/5

First, only look at the fractional portion of each mixed number and follow the instructions presented for question 1 above.
