Question 938770: marissa had 20 nickels, 16 dimes and 4 quarters. she put the coins into 4 stacks so that all the stacks had the same money value. What is the least number of coins marissa could have in any one stack.
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20054)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
20 nickels =  $1.00
16 dimes =    $1.60
 4 quarters = $1.00
-------------------
total       = $3.60

So each stack must contain $3.60÷3 = $1.20.

The smallest number of those coins that could add up to $1.20
is 6, when we have 4 quarters and 2 dimes.

Answer: 6 coins
