Question 906199: I am trying to solve a long fraction problem. I'm not sure what it's called but I will send the problem and what I tried. I'm hoping you can tell me if it's right or not. This is just practice for me for studying for a test.
3/8÷1/10+3/5×1/6
(3/8÷1/10)+(3/5×1/6)
3/8×10/1=30/8
3/5×1/6=3/30
30/8+1/10
30/8×10/10+1/10×8/8=
308/80=3 4/5

Answer by richwmiller(17219)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3/8÷1/10+3/5×1/6
Do one step in each parentheses
reduce by factors when possible
(3/8÷1/10)+(3/5×1/6)
(3/8×10/1)+(3/30)
30/8+1/10
15/4+1/10
150/40+4/40
154/40=
77/20= 3 17/20 =3.85
You were good till the last step
308/80 is not 3 4/5
3 4/5 is 3.80
304/80=3 4/5

3/8÷1/10+3/5×1/6
Believing that I know what you want, and using a fraction bar in place of the division
symbol and using a "dot" in place of the multiplication X symbol:
(3/8)/(1/10)+(3/5)*(1/6)
As rendered on the site,
Your Fraction Expression,;

, dividing by fraction is same as multplying by reciprocal;

, Multiplication gets precedence over addition; multiply the numerators for each numerator
and multiply denominators for each denominator;

, reduce fractions as part of simplification, in this case, removing redundant factors of 1;

BUT....

, lowest common denominator here is 20, so...

, adjust each fraction term to its equivalent having denominator 20;

Simplified as a mixed number

Showing more steps in your own work is perfectly acceptable if it helps you to compute more
