Question 827979: I have an algebraic fraction equation here. I am not sure if that counts as numeric but it wasn't listed there. Anyways, the math equation is 20 + 3/4(12 - y) = 3/2 y - 10 and it is saying solve for y. If you could help me understand how they do this I would be much appreciated.
Answer by nerdybill(7384) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
20 + 3/4(12 - y) = 3/2 y - 10
to rid ourselves of the denominators, multiply both sides by 4:
80 + 3(12 - y) = 6y - 40
80 + 36 - 3y = 6y - 40
116 - 3y = 6y - 40
156 - 3y = 6y
156 = 9y
156/9 = y
52/3 = y
