If someone ate 2/3 of a pie and someone else ate 1/4 of a pie how much pie is left
.
Let x = fraction left
then
x + 2/3 + 1/4 = 1
multiplying both sides by 12:
12x + 8 + 3 = 12
12x + 11 = 12
12x = 1
x = 1/12
