Let's make life easier and make 1 1/3 an improper fraction (numerator bigger than the denominator). To do this, you multiply the whole number in front (1), by the denominator (3). Then add the numerator (1) to that product (the product is the result of the two things you just multiplied). The number you obtain becomes the numerator in the new fraction (4/3).
Now multiply 18 * (4/3) = 24
