Question 6486: how do I subtract this fraction? 5/8-2/5
Answer by longjonsilver(2297)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
convert the fractions to the same denominator....

For 8 and 5, convert them both to 40, as 25/40 - 16/40. All i did was scale up each fraction. Now we can subtract --> 9/40. This does not simplify further.
