solve 4/5-1/7
To add or subtract fractions you have to
have them stated with the same denominator.
---
Your Problem:
The least common denominator is 5*7 = 35
---
Rewrite each fraction with that denominator:
4/5 = 28/35
1/7 = 5/35
------
Now you can subtract.
28/35-5/35
---
= 23/35
==================
A faster way to get the same answer is to cross multiply.
Your Problem:
4/5-1/7
= (7*4-5*1)/(5*7) = (28-5)/35 = 23/35
