The problem is ambiguous, I'll provide 2 answers.

Perhaps sloppy, but quickest for me (I'm assuming 8 is the numerator and 5x is the denominator):
multiply each expression by 10 (the largest denominator):
16/x - 1 = 2
add one to each side
16/x = 3
divide each side by 16
1/x = 3/16
cross multiply
(1 * 16, then divide by 3)
16/3 = 5 1/3

Other, if 8/5 is the coefficient of x (if x is not in the denominator):
multiply each expression by 10 (the largest denominator):
16x - 1 = 2
add one to each side
16x = 3
divide each side by 16
x = 3/16
