Question 473061: can you arrange numerals 1 to 9 in a single fraction that is exactly one third?
Answer by Edwin McCravy(20055)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
There are two ways:

1.
2.

How'd I get that?

I knew it has to be a 4-digit number on top and
a 5 digit number on the bottom. I knew that

has to be close. The numerator has to be increased or
decreasd with the denominator always being 3 times the
numerator, so that we don't use the same digit twice
or any zeros.

I used a TI-84 calculator.

I pressed CLEAR
I pressed Y=
After  \Y1= I typed 3X
I pressed 2ND
I pressed Window

I made this menu read

TABLE SETUP
 TblStart=6000
 ᅀTbl=1
Indpnt: Auto Ask
Depend: Auto Ask

with "Auto" highlighted in both places

then
I pressed 2ND
I pressed GRAPH

Then I pressed the up arrow looking under the X and the Y1
columns until I got to a case where all 9 digits appeared.
It didn't take me long to find those two that way.
