Where are the fractions ?
how does your son get 5?
it is 19
6-2=4
4*4=16
16+3=19
and
8-(4+6/2)=1
8-7=1
how did you get -1?

The problem is 3+4(6-2)
According to BODMAS rule we should simplify in the order of Brackets ,OF, Division, Multiplication ,Addition and finally Subtraction .
Accordingly in the above problem we should first simplify the Bracket then multiplication and then only addition.
So we first take up the numbers in the brackets that is (6-2)=4
Accordingly the problem becomes
3+4(6-2) =3+4(4) = 3+16 =19
Hence 19 is the correct answer.
If we add 3 and 4 first, we get wrong result.
Thank you very much for giving me the opportunity to explain

Neither is correct!!
3 + 4(6 – 2)
3 + 4(4)
3 + 16 ------- Applying PEMDAS, in which multiplication is done before addition

8 – (4 + 3) = 1
