Question 412180: how do you find the answer to 1 35/16 minus 1/5?
Answer by 7asho0m(2) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1 35/16 - 1/5
Lets forget about the whole number for now, lets make the denominators the same, which is the same factor between 5 and 16?
80
To make 16 80 x by 5 and to make 5 80 times by 16, so here it is:
35 x 5/ 16 x 5 = 175/80
1 x 16/ 5 x 16 = 16/80
Now we minus the numerators normally, 175 - 16 = 159/80
So the answer for now is 1 159/80, but it is not the final answer because the numerator is more than the denominator (improper fraction), so we divide 159 divide by 80.
Lets do it manually, the best way, how many 80's in 159? 1 only, so 159 - 80 = 79, and the denominator is the same
So it is 1 79/80
We are not done yet, don't forget the whole number, minus them 1 - 1 = 0, so the final answer is:
79/80
Hope that helped
