The LCD is 36
4 1/4 = 4 9/36
5 1/9 = 5 4/36
6 1/2 = 6 18/36
I can add the fractions and whole numbers separately:
4 + 5 + 6 = 15
9/36 + 4/36 + 18/36 = 31/36
15 31/36 answer

Method 1) First, convert all of these mixed numbers to improper fractions.
Next, find the common denominator (least common multiple of 4, 9, and 2). This will be a number that will be divisible by 2, 4, and 9.
It looks like 36 will. I found this by multiplying 4X9 = 36 and this is divisible by all three numbers.
Convert the improper fractions so they all have the common denominator of 36.

Now convert this to a mixed number by diving 571 by 36 and putting the remainder (if there is one) over 36.

Add the integer parts:
Then add the fractional parts using the method above to find the common denominator of 36.
