Answer by queenofit(120) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Ok first of all, you don't make 3 into a mixed numeral. You have to make 18 11/12 into a fraction then divide it by your 3. I will go over this with you in case you have forgotten how to do this OK/
to turn a mixed number into a fraction you take the whole number ( in your case the 18) and multiply it by the denominator (in your case the 12) and add the numerator (in your case the 11). Put the number you get over the origional denomonator. It is like reverse reduction of a fraction. you get the fraction that is equal to 18 11/12. I got 227/12=18 11/12. now you want to divide by 3 right. you know that to divide a whole number, you put that number over a 1 to make it a fraction like so, 3/1. it still = 3 right. So you would have (227/12) / (3/1) right? To divide a fraction you actually flip the second fraction and multiply so you would have 227/12 * 1/3 you get 227/24. then you would reduce to get your final answer. Depending on what your instructor wants you could have a decimal, a mixed number, or a fraction.
hope this helps
