Question 255397: Is the rate 1/4 cup of butter /4 eggs equivalent to the rate 3 cups of butter /48 eggs?
1/4 cup of butter is the numerator and 4 eggs the denominator. 3 cups of butter is the numerator and 48 eggs is the denominator in the second fraction.
I can simplify the second fraction of 3/48 to 1/16 but not sure what to do with the first fraction since it has a fraction for a numerator. I know I must simplify both fractions to find out if they are equivalent.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
In general, it is true that
b%2Fc+=+%28a%2Fa%29%2A%28b%2Fc%29
and
%28a%2Fa%29%2A%28b%2Fc%29+=+%28a%2Ab%29%2F%28a%2Ac%29
given:
%281%2F4%29%2F4
Multiply top and bottom by 4%2F4
%284%2F4%29%2A%28%281%2F4%29%2F4%29
%284%2A%281%2F4%29%29%2F%284%2A4%29
1%2F16
and, also,
%28%281%2F3%29%2F%281%2F3%29%29%2A%283%2F48%29
%28%281%2F3%29%2A3%29%2F%28%281%2F3%29%2A%2848%29%29
1%2F16
The two ratios are both equal to 1/16
