Question 18820: ok im having a tough time finding the domain and range.... like x and y
heres the problem:
Marc joined a Cd club. The membership fee to join the club was 12 dollars and each Cd costs 8 dollars. The equation, t=12 + 8c, can be used to model this situation where t represents total cost,of a membership and Cd's for c, compact discs
Marc wants to see how much the total would be for different amounts of Cds. Use 0,2,4,6,8 for the domain to find the various totsal costs
what would the range be for the 0,2,4,6,8?

When discussing the Range and the Domain of a function,it is important to know which is the dependent variable and which is the independent variable.
A function is a relationship between two quantities in which the value of one quantity, the dependent variable, is uniquely determined by the value of the other quantity, the independent variable.
In your problem, the independent variable is c, the cost of a CD in dollars while the dependent variable is t, the total cost in dollars. As you can see, the value of t depends the value of c.
The domain of a function is the set of all possible values of the independent variable (c, in this case). The range is the set of all possible values of the dependent variable (t, in this case).
Now all you need to do is to substitute each of the given values of the independent variable (the domain) (c) and calculate the corresponding values of the dependent variable (the range) (t).
For example: Take the first given value of the domain (c = 0), substitute into the equation and solve for t to find the first value of the range.
c = 0.

The first value in the range.
Likewise: c = 2.

The second value in the range.
Continue like this until you have used all of the given values in ths domain and you finish up with a corresponding number of values in the range.
