Question 14250: can you teach me how to change fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions
Answer by Alwayscheerful(414) About Me  (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A fraction is like 1/2. You can do that in your head = .5
To change a more complicated fraction, you can just divide the numerator (number on top) by the denominator (number on bottom).
For example, 145/442
All you do is divide 145 by 442.
you should get .3280542986 (if you use a calculator)
If you don't have a calculator at your disposal, you can use long division. set the 442 inside the "house" and the 145 as the divisor.
To change it back to a fraction, you need to take the following steps.
1. count the number of numbers after the decimal place.
2. put a 1 and the numbers of numbers as 0's (example below)
3. put the numbers you see (after the decimal point) as the numerator.
4. simplify
for example, we will round the previous number to .328
put that in a fraction
328%2F1000
There are three numbers after the decimal point; therefore, you put 3 zero's
then you just reduce that number
*Your answer may be off by a little because of the rounding we did. If you don't round, you will get the exact answer. So, do as little rounding as possible for the more accurate answer
