You can break the question up into easier
pieces. It is asking: "What is 1/3 of 2 3/4?"
What is 1/3 of 1? It's 1/3
What is 1/3 of 2? It's 2/3
So far the answer is 2/3 plus 1/3 of 3/4
So what's 1/3 of 3/4?
3/4 = 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 so 1/3 of that is 1/4
So far the answer is 2/3 + 1/4
The lowest common denominator of 3 and 4 is 12
2/3 = 8/12
1/4 = 3/12
So, the answer is
11/12 of the road have been resurfaced
