Obviously, the "+" in these expressions is not simple addition. Instead, it represents some operation on the two numbers that gives the results shown.

You won't get any mental exercise if I just give you the answer. But here is a hint:
What is 2 times 2?
What is 3 times 3?
What is 4 times 4?
How do those number compare with the answers shown?

And, by the way, even though I see a nice pattern in this problem, it is possible that the correct pattern is something completely different, which would quite probably yield a different answer for "6+6".
