Question 1019054: If, 7,182 roses were killed in last night's frost, and this was 2 and 5/8 as many as the night before, how many roses were killed the night before?
Answer by fractalier(6550) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let us call the number of roses killed the night before, x.
Then (2 5/8)x = 7182...or
(21/8)x = 7182
Now multiply both sides by the reciprocal of 21/8, that is 8/21, and get
(8/21)(21/8)x = (8/21)(7182)
x = 2736 roses killed the night before
