Root 4 is 2 and root 9 is 3 so root 5 has to be somewhere between 2 and 3. 5 is closer to 4 than to 9, so root 5 has to be closer to 2 than to 3. Put 5 in your calculator and press the square root key, then find a spot between 2 and 3 that looks like it might represent the calculator result.
