The questions reads as "Find the difference between -8 and -32 on the number line".
If you have a number line you can simply count the steps from one number to the next.

There are 24 steps from -32 to -8.

Another way to figure it out is to take the absolute value of their difference: |-8-(-32)|
|-8+32|
