Question 503191: I am in Algebra 1A.(7th grade)....The problem is a face of a clock, and the question is; Draw a line segment across the clock so that the sums of the numbers on each side of the segment are the same?..Can you tell me why the sum on each half must be equal to 3x13????....HELP!!!! If you draw a line the puts 4,5,6,7,8&9 on one side, and
1,2,3,10,11 & 12 on the other, both add to 39, which is 3*13.

The line would go thru the 3:30 point, the center, and the 9:30 point.

The sum of the numbers 1+2+...+12 is 78, so half of 78 would be 39. Try finding some consecutive numbers on a clock that add up to 39.
