To be able to find the equation of any line by finding the slope and y-intercept. Then the equation of the line must be written in slope-intercept form, y = mx+b.

If we substitute 0 in for x in the equation y = mx+b, we get y = m(0)+b or y = b. Thus the graph will cross the y-axis at the point (0,b)
For the equation y = x+2, m = 1 and b = 2. The graph crosses the y-axis at (0,2) and has a slope equal to 1.
