You actually jst change the negative to a postive because the number line goes:
-12 -11 -10 -9- -8 -7 -6 -5 -4 -3 -2 -1 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 and so on.
So,
12+23
Add 23 to 12 to get 35.
