Question 193024: how to mark root 2 on number line
Answer by scott8148(6628) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
it depends on the resolution (scale) of the number line
you can always find two points on the line that the value of "root 2" is between
1^2 is 1, and 2^2 is 4 ___ so the value is between 1 and 2
1.5^2 is 2.25 ___ so the value is between 1 and 1.5
1.4^2 is 1.96 ___ so the value is between 1.4 and 1.5
1.42^2 is 2.0164 ___ so the value is between 1.4 and 1.42
you can keep doing this "approximation" (by adding more decimal places) until you get the accuracy you want
