basically the number line works as follows:
your equation is 4 + 5.
that's the same as +4 and +5.
your number line is numbered from 0 to 10 (should be sufficient for this operation)
i consider each number a stop.
your first number is + 4, so you start from 0 and go to the right 4 stops.
you will land on the number 4.
your second number is + 5, so you start from the number 4 and go to the right 5 stops.
you will land on the number 9.

here's your number line
0---1---2---3---4---5---6---7---8---9---10---11---12
you start from 0 and go to the right 4 stops. you will land on the number 4.
