Fractions go in between the whole numbers on the number line.

1 1/7 goes to the right of 1 one-seventh of the way toward 2
(closer to 1 than to 2)

8 2/3 goes to the right of 8 two-thirds of the way toward 9
(closer to 9 than to 8)

When you mark them, you will just estimate the fraction of 
the way toward the next whole number.  They go about where 
the two black smiley faces are below:
