Question 272062: Can you please answer and solve this problem.
At a county fair, a concession stand is selling hot dogs and Boca burgers. Madeleine buys three hot dogs and six Boca burgers for her group of friends, and the cost is $26.40. Next in line is Dan who buys one hot dog and five Boca burgers for a cost of $18.40. Find the selling price for a hot dog and for a Boca burger.
One suggestion is to let x stand for the price of one hot dog and let y stand for the price of one Boca burger.

Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3h + 6b = 26.4

1h + 5b = 18.4 ___ h = 18.4 - 5b

substituting ___ 3(18.4 - 5b) + 6b = 26.4

55.2 - 15b + 6b = 26.4 ___ -9b = -28.8 ___ b = 3.2

substituting ___ h + 5(3.2) = 18.4 ___ h = 2.4
