Question 136788: SOLVE THE FOLLOWING SYSTEM (USE THE METHOD YOU PREFER, WHETHER ITS SUBSTITUTION OR ADDITION)
5) y=x+1
y=2x-1
now i understand if i use addition that my one's cancel out... but does that give me y= 3x or wut? i'm lost... do i need to solve for both?? where do i go from here? please help?
thanks, lj23kfuller@yahoo.com

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y=x+1
y=2x-1
---------------
Equate the two expressions for y to get:
x+1 = 2x-1
x = 2
----------
Substitute to solve for "y":
y = 2+1
y = 3
-----------
Solution: (2,3)
