Multiply the original measurement by "unit fractions" which change the units without changing the measurement.
                 5280 feet 1 meter 1 decameter
   25.3 miles * ----------- * ----------- * -------------
                  1 mile 3.28 feet 10 meters

With that multiplication, the units cancel, leaving the measurement in decameters. Since in each fraction the numerator and denominator are equivalent measurements, each fraction has the value 1; so the multiplications do not change the actual measurement.

The statement   "10 decameters is  1  meter"  in the post by @josgarithmetic is  ABSOLUTELY  and  TOTALLY   W R O N G.

So,  ignore his post,  if you don't want to make a  HUGE  MISTAKE.

1  decameter is  10  meters,  in opposite.

I also can add that this unit of measurement  "1 decameter"  is  NEVER  USED  in practice.

I worked about 40 years in Civil Engineering for various industries, so I know this subject.
