Question 1077538: solve
{x^2-2x=2y^2=8
2x+y=6

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
{x^2-2x=2y^2=8
2x+y=6
y=-2x+6
2*(-2x+6)^2=8
2*(4x^2-24x+36)=8
8x^2-48x+72=8
x^2-6x+9=1
(x-3)^2=1
x=3+/-1
x=4 and 2.
y=-2 and +2
check both (4, -2) and (4, 2)
(4, -2) work for both. (4, 2) does not work for both.
