If you are given the sum and difference of two numbers,
:: Let x=sum
:: y=difference
::
Then, (x+y)/2 is the value of one of the two numbers. Now, it is easy to find the other number: subtract the number obtained from the sum
::
::
Example: sum=4 difference=10
Solution:
::
::one number is (4+10)/2=14/2=7. So, the other is 4[sum]-7[obtained number]=-3
