Question 18388: Here is my question:
If the lines 3x + Ky = 2 and 6x - 5y - 1 = 0 are parallel, what is the value of K?
I figured out that the slope of 6x - 5y - 1 = 0 is 6/5 and know that the slope is the same for the other equation since they are parallel, but I don't know how to apply it to the 1st equation.
Please Help!
Thanks!
Sandy

Question 18604: All through the chapter in my algebra class, I have not understood the standard form of a line: Ax+By=C. I only understand slope intercept form: Y=mx+b. Could you please explain how to put the information that is given about a line ( the slope, x intercept, and y intercept)into standard form. Thank you!

Question 18624: Alright, this one is starting to become an irritation at another board.
3a ÷ 3b = x
a = 10, b = 2
Now, I solve this by satisfying the variable terms first, as such:
(3 * 10) ÷ (3 * 2) = x
(30) ÷ (6) = x
5 = x
The alternate solution that's being argued is that variable terms aren't solved first, and linear order of operations takes precedent:
3a ÷ 3b = x
3 * 10 ÷ 3 * 2 = x
30 ÷ 3 * 2 = x
10 * 2 = x
20 = x
So, which is correct? I've scoured Google for this, but haven't found any confirmation either way.

Question 18960: I need to write this equation x+(1/y)=7 in standard form ax+by=c where all fractions are cleared and "a" is not negative. I tried multiplying each term by "y" but I ended up with xy +1=7y then xy-7y=-1 which does not make much sense. Thanks for your help!

Question 18984: Is the following a linear transformation from R3 to R3:
L(x1,x2,x3) = (x3, x1+2x2-5x3, x1-x2) ?
ok so i've worked on this a while, and i'm wondering: is it correct to show that the formulas

is closed under scalar multiplication and addition? and if it is, does that mean that the answer is yes? thank you so much for your help!

Question 19270: Hi, can you please help me with this one?
The question is:
Solve the system of linear equations by the addition method. Then state whether the system is independent, inconsistent or dependent:
1/2x + 1/3y = 1/3
1/6x + 1/3y = 2/9
Thanks!

Question 19292: Hi, I need help with this one. It's driving me crazy!
A textbook company uses the equations R = 30x and C = 5x + 3000 to represent the revenue and cost of textbook sales respectively. The number of textbooks is represented by x.
a) For what number of textbooks is the cost equal to the revenue?
b) Using the Profit Formula (Profit = Revenue - Cost), write an algabraic expression the represents the Profit for x textbooks.
Thanks for your help!
