Find the value of K so that the line through (3,K) and (-1,5) is parallel to
the line x + 2y = 4.
I substituted zero for y and got x = 4 for x intercept (4,0)
Then substitued 1 or y and got x = 1 for point (1,1)
Where should I go from here. Thanks for any help!

Question 16528: Can anyone help me solve this?
If the line Kx - 2y = 6 has the same x and y-intercept, what is the value of K?
I'm not sure what to do with this.
I substituted zero for x and got
-2y = 6
y = -3
which would mean a set of points (0,-3) but how would that be the same
intercept for both x and y.
Any help would be very appreciated.

Question 17282: Hello! I am trying to solve the system by substitution, this is what I have so far:
5x - 2y = -5
y - 5x = 3
-2y = -5x - 5
y = 5x + 3
-y = 2
5(2) - 2y = -5
10 - 2y = -5
2y = -10 - 5
2y = -5
If I ended this way it would give me a fraction, can a fraction be used with this? Your help is greatly appreciated! :)

Question 17341: Martina leaves home at 9 A.M., bicycling at a rate of 24mi/h. Two hours later, John leaves, driving at a rate of 48mi/h. At what time will JOhn catch up with Martina?
I have been trying to figure this out for several hours now. Is this a trick question, because I cannot figure it out. I know that distance= rate times time (d=r x t), but it doesn't give the distance.
