Question 1687: Which of the following are functions Expalin your reasoning for a,b,c. Keep the definition of a fuction strongly in a mind as you do this problem. Think about whether the relationship between f{x) and x is consistnet with being a function or not and explain your reasonong?
a. f(x) = 2 if x>1
f(x) = -1 otherwise
b. f(x)= 5 if x>0
f(x) = -5 if x <0
f(x) = 5 or -5 if x=0

Question 1686: 1.Suppose you have a lemonade stand, and when you charge $1 per cup of lemonade you sell 60 cups. But when you raise the price to $2 you only sell 30 cups. Write an equation for the number of cups as function of the price you charge. Denote "C" for number of cups, and "P" for the price you charge. Assume the function is linear.
2. Take a look at the table below and write out an equation for f(x)
x -2-2 0 1 2
f(x) -5-2 1 4 7
3. For each of the relationships below, expalin whether you think it is best described by a linear function or non-linear function. Explain your reasoning thorougghly
a. How fast it takes you to get to work as a function of how fast you drive
b. Probility of getting into a car accident as a function of how fast you drive.
c. Your height as a fuction of age (from age 0 to 100)

Question 1664: Solving the equation
Problem
4Y+7=5Y+13
I know the answer is -6
But I need a breakdown, when I first tried to complete this problem I subtracted 7 from both sides but I was left with 9Y (4Y+5Y), I just need a break down I am doing someting wrong.
Thanks

Question 2000: Hi All,
I have -3x + 6y = -12, I can workout how to get to x=0,y=-2,
but I'm lost on the x=3,y=-1/2.
Here goes
-3x + 6y = -12
6y = 3x -12 (take over the 3x to leave 6y)
y =6/3x - 2 (divide by 6 to get to y)
y = 2x - 2 (final answer)
When I enter x = 3, I get y = 4, not y = -1/2.
as
y = 2x -2 = 6 - 2 = 4
Why? (Ok its must be something I've done wrong, but what?)
Many thanks
Many thanks
Marcus
