Question 397345: I am trying to decide wether each pair of lines is Perpendicular, parallel, or neither. 2x-y=5, 2x+y=3
I have worked out:
2x-y=5
2x-y-5=5-5
2x-y-5=0
2x-y+y-5=0+y
2x-5=y
I plugged 2 in for x
2(2)-5=y
4-5=y
-1=y
2x+y=3
2x+3=y
Plugged in 2 for x again
2(2)+3=y
4+3=y
7=y
In my book it says that the answer is neither Perpendicular or parallel but I don't understand why that is. I thought if you were solving for y the coefficient of x is the slope so wouldn't the slope on both be 2?

Question 397391: The Norman window with dimensions as shown is a rectangle topped by a semicircle. If the area of the window is 68.2 square feet, find its height h.
the drawing looks like a square with "6ft" at the bottom, at the top of the square is a half circle or dome divided like you would a piece of pie. Then next to the picture they have an arrow with "h ft" in the middle of the line going up and down from the top of the dome to the bottom of the square.

i set it up like this y=mx+b
so -2y=2-x and i divide the whole thing by two
i then get y=1 but i dont know how to divide the x
and to graph it after i divide by two i use x as zero and y as what
my assingment calls for two points of each and im not sure if i drop the run over rise and use the next number and just add or subtract what ever the equation asks for. i need to get a slope on the graph please help me
