Question 998882: I am unsure how to get the equation. I am sure if i can get the equation, I will be able to solve b.
The temperature T in degrees Fahrenheit is (approximately) a linear function of the number C of cricket chirps per minute. Twenty cricket chirps per minute corresponds to a temperature of 42 degrees Fahrenheit. Each additional chirp per minute corresponds to an increase of 0.25 degree.
(a) Use a formula to express T as linear function of C.
T =

(b) What temperature is indicated by 100 cricket chirps per minute?

Answer by josgarithmetic(39617)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You want to find temperature as a function of cricket chirps. T for temperature and C for chirp rate. Points (C,T).

The description gives points (20,42) and A SLOPE of 1 C increase goes with 0.25 T increase. C is the horizontal axis and T is the vertical axis, so slope is , the slope.

You can directly use the point-slope form of linear equation.
Known slope: 0.25
Known point: (20,42)

and you know what you need - simplify, solve for T.
