Answer by tutorcecilia(2152)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + 3y = 12
Slope of Line #1 = -1/3
.
Perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals:
Slope of Line #2 = 3
So,
y=mx+b (plug-in the values and solve for the b-term]
-5=(3)(9)+b
-5=27+b
-5-27=b
-32 = b
y=3x-32
.
Re-write in standard form:
-3x+y=-32
