x+y = 2............(1)
-4x+y = 7...........(2)
subtracting (1) &(2) we get 5x = -5 or x = -1
substituting for x in (1) we get -1+y = 2
y = 2+1 = 3
the values of x and y are -1 and 3 respectively.
