Question 983057: Pls help solve below two questions:
Question No. 1
x/3 - y/4 = 2x - y +12
Question No. 2
A Company manufactures two different products, A and B. Each unit of product A costs $6 to produce and each unit of product B costs $4. The Company insists that total costs for the two products be $500.
(a) Define the cost equation which states that the total cost of producing x units of product A and y units of product B equals $500
(b) Assuming the Company has agreed to fill an order for 50 units of product A, how many units of product B should be produced if total costs are to be kept at $500?

Answer by rothauserc(4718)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1) x/3 - y/4 = 2x - y +12
multiply both sides of = by 12
4x - 3y = 24x - 12y + 144
9y = 20x + 144
y = (20x/9) + 16
this is a line, here is its graph. note that each point(x,y) on the line is a solution, for example (0, 16) is a solution
here is its graph

******************************************************************************
2) let x be the number of product A items and y be the number of product B items, then
a) 6x + 4y = 500
b) (6*50) + 4y = 500
300 + 4y = 500
4y = 200
y = 50, therefore
50 units of product B should be produced
