4x+5y=-10
4x+10=-5y
(-4/5)x-2=y
In slope-intercept form: y=(-4/5)x-2
The y-intercept is (0,-2); The x-intercept is (-5/2,0)

There are two axes in a plain: the x axis is horizontal (left to right) and the y axis is vertical (up and down). They intersect, generally in the middle of each.
4x + 5y = -10
To graph it, you have to put it in the slope intercept form: y = mx + b where m = slope and b = y intercept (where the graph line crosses the y-axis) And, importantly, m (slope) = rise/run. Rise goes up if positive, down if negative and run left if negative and right if positive:
4x + 5y = -10 becomes y = -10/5 - 4/5 Simplify 10/5, divide both by 5. We now have: y = -2 - 4/5x Just to make this match the formula y= mx+b I am going to switch the terms on the right:
y = -4/5x - 2 Now you can start graphing. Since b= -2, go down 2 on the vertical line. Now we've got a rise of -4 and a run of 5. Count 4 down on the y and 5 to the right. Look at the graph I made you. A picture truly speaks a thousand words.
