Question 947376: A swimming pool with a water level of 60 inches is being emptied by a pump. For every 100 gallons that are pumped out, the water level decreases one inch. I need to write an algebraic formula for the depth of water in the pool, in inches.

will become a slope in the equation.

Independant variable x, may be depth in the pool in inches.
x=0, y=0 if y is volume in gallons.
x=60, y=60*100=6000 gallons.
If x remains a variable, then y=100x.
